The Breaking Point That Built a Movement

The Potential Within did not begin as an event concept. It began as a realization. After navigating a prolonged and complex health journey, Nicky Wallace found herself confronting something many people quietly experience: symptoms that disrupt daily life, inconclusive answers, and the growing awareness that something deeper may be happening beneath the surface.

What unfolded over time was more than a search for medical clarity. It became an exploration into how stress, environment, lifestyle, and leadership intersect with personal wellbeing, and it exposed a larger gap. While resources existed, access and awareness often did not. Conversations around chronic symptoms, hormonal shifts, gut health, stress, and burnout were happening in isolation, if they were happening at all. People were navigating complex health concerns alone. The Potential Within was created to change that.

As Nicky sought answers beyond traditional pathways, she was introduced to functional medicine, expanded lab testing, and epigenetic analysis. For the first time, she was able to see a broader picture of how inflammation, stress, nutrient deficiencies, and environmental factors were influencing her body. But the breakthrough was not just clinical. It was communal. The moment she began speaking openly about her experience, something unexpected happened: people responded.

Women waited in line to share their own stories. Executives admitted to chronic symptoms they had normalized. Leaders quietly acknowledged the toll stress was taking on their health. The common thread was clear: many people are struggling, but few feel safe talking about it.

The Potential Within was designed around three core intentions: education, resources, and community. It exists to introduce individuals to proactive, functional approaches to health and wellbeing, to connect people with local practitioners and wellness modalities they may not know exist, and to create a safe space for honest conversation about health, stress, and leadership. This initiative recognizes that wellbeing is not separate from performance. People do not leave their stress, symptoms, or exhaustion at the door when they go to work, and leaders are not immune to the physical impact of sustained pressure. The Potential Within bridges the gap between personal health and professional life because sustainable leadership requires a sustainable foundation.

Traditional systems often respond once something is wrong. The Potential Within focuses on asking better questions earlier: What signals is your body sending? Where is stress accumulating? What support systems are available? What options exist beyond “this is just how it is”? It is not about replacing traditional medicine. It is about expanding awareness. Too often, individuals normalize symptoms that deserve attention, and over time those symptoms can begin to shape how they show up in their work, their relationships, and their lives.

What started as a single gathering has evolved into a growing community. The upcoming event on June 5 in West Des Moines will continue this work by guiding attendees through a structured journey of understanding proactive health options, learning from practitioners, and connecting with others navigating similar questions. But the movement extends beyond one day. It is about changing how we talk about wellbeing, reducing isolation, empowering individuals to advocate for themselves, and acknowledging that high performance begins with health.
